A golf outing sponsored by Charleston Newspapers turned out to be a real boost for the Daily Mail's Neediest Cases Appeal.

The annual outing, established as a charity event, brought a check for $3,400 to the newspaper's appeal.

Several other large contributions that came in the appeal's final days helped boost the bottom line for the 2002-2003 appeal to $126,031.14.

While not a record for the appeal, which raised nearly $140,000 in 2001, the amount reflects the appeal's legacy in recent years of topping the $100,000 mark.
