Fast-food outlets, gas stations and car dealerships would be
just a few of the businesses banned from Mount Pleasant Street NW
under a new plan by city officials designed to upgrade the bustling
but decaying five-block commercial area where violence broke out
last May.
Banned as well would be drive-in banks, plumbing supply stores,
car repair shops, veterinary hospitals and car washes, as part of a
set of zoning restrictions similar to those governing several other
commercial strips in the city.
But the prospect, still many months and hearings away from a
vote by the D.C. Zoning Commission, already is raising concerns.
