TRACE Adkins is on tour as part of the South Atlantic League's
100th anniversary celebration, and he's getting a lot more applause
at ball fields then he ever did as a player. "I couldn't hit the
curve ball," Adkins, who played first base in high school, said. "It
didn't take the pitchers on the other teams long to figure that out,
and then all I'd see was curve balls."
But breaking balls aside, baseball was still a big part of growing
up in Sarepta, a small town in northwest Louisiana. Even if he never
got a look from the scouts, his team was good enough to go to the
playoffs and draw some fans.
Adkins is coming to Charleston on Saturday for a concert with
fellow "Louisiana redneck" Andy ...
