Candidates vying to become West Virginia's next governor are
divided over what, if anything, the state can do to help more of its
citizens find and afford health care coverage.
The stances of the major candidates veer from encouraging the
private market to expanding state insurance programs. They do not
always reflect the official platform of the candidates' respective
parties.
Most adult West Virginians, nearly two-thirds, pay their doctor
bills with their employers' help. But businesses are rethinking the
health care benefits they offer workers, raising premiums and
deductibles or even canceling coverage.
