Arch Coal Inc.'s Ruffner Mine in Logan County won the state's top
mine reclamation award for 2003, the West Virginia Coal Association
announced.
The association and the state Department of Environmental
Protection jointly sponsor the reclamation award program. To win,
mining operations have to be nominated by a state inspector.
Additionally, Ducks Unlimited named Catenary Coal Co.'s Samples
Mine in Kanawha County as the winner of its "Wetlands West Virginia
Award." The West Virginia Chapter of the National Wild Turkey
Federation named Colony Bay Coal Co.'s Boone County surface mine as
the winner of its "Wildlife West Virginia Award."
