Article: Free fishing days: A fine excuse to dunk a worm

Government giveaways are nothing new in West Virginia, but few of them have provided as much enjoyment as the state's Free Fishing Days.

For two days each June, anyone with a hook, a line and a pulse can fish any of the Mountain State's public waters without having to buy a fishing license. This year's Free Fishing days are scheduled for Saturday and Sunday.

Bret Preston, fisheries chief for the state Division of Natural Resources, says the free days create an ideal recreational opportunity for two types of people - adults who would like to try to learn to fish, and adults who want to introduce young children to fishing.
