After the first important distance race of the year for
Derby-age colts, one prediction could be made with certainty: It's
going to be a lively racing season.
Dance Floor, a colt owned by the family of the rap star Hammer,
established himself as one of the country's top 3-year-olds with his
authoritative victory today in the $250,430 Fountain of Youth Stakes
at Gulfstream Park. The Hammer contingent had been responsible for
the most memorable winner's circle celebration ever seen at Belmont
Park when they won the Coaching Club American Oaks last year; what
will they do if they get to Churchill Downs?
