With about 70 to 80 video lottery casinos already operating in the
city, Charleston isn't trying to ban the gambling operations but,
rather, control their location, two council members said.
"We just don't want them clustering in our neighborhoods," said at-
large councilwoman Mary Jean Davis.
Davis and 14th Ward councilman Jack Harrison, both Democrats,
sponsored the city ordinance that requires casinos to be located at
least 2,000 feet apart except in the downtown business district.
Mayor Danny Jones and Kanawha County state senator Vic Sprouse,
both Republicans, joined them in a city hall press conference
