Q: My 4-year-old Jack Russell Terrier, Jackie O, was coughing a
lot and I took her to the vet last week.
She was diagnosed with kennel cough and I was told to let her rest
and let it run its course.
Her cough sounds terrible! Can she die from kennel cough?
She is just miserable! I'm not much happier.

Kennel cough is a complex of highly contagious infectious diseases
in the respiratory tract of dogs. It is a combination of viruses and
bacteria that cause a terrible hacking cough. I have even heard dogs
sound like they are coughing up a hairball, and if they had dined on
something hairy recently, often times it can come back up in the
gagging. Unfortunately, the cough can last for up to 2 ...
