All that poker playing on television is helping Big East Conference football coaches in regard to the most pressing questions about their league.

In other words, most are "checking" when asked about the level of play of the Big East, which this season is generally considered the poorest of the leagues with a Bowl Championship Series berth.

"It's early in the year," Rutgers Coach Greg Schiano said Monday.

"I definitely think it's a conference on the rise. I know we're on the rise."
