Spaghetti and Meatballs is the quintessential Italian/American dish although you won't find it in any self-respecting Italian cookbook. The Italians do serve fried balls of meat but serve them with a salad or perhaps vegetables, never simmered in tomato sauce and dumped over a huge mound of spaghetti.

That being said, one would be hard pressed to find anyone who doesn't have fond memories of this 'fusion' offering even though purists might consider this nothing more than a prop for The Godfather. For my part, I love it.
