A South Charleston doctor was killed after his BMW slammed into a building and caused an explosion so violent that Charleston police described it as the worst one-vehicle accident they have ever seen.

Timothy Gore, 43, was driving on MacCorkle Avenue SE about 11 p.m. Monday when his car veered off the left edge of the road and struck the old Preiser Scientific Building near the Kanawha Turnpike intersection, said Cpl. Shawn Williams.

The car burst into flames when it crashed into the building and then struck a utility pole, Williams said.

Gore was ejected from the vehicle. The main body of the car was sheared in half and mangled into unrecognizable parts, police said.
