Nurses with advanced training have endorsed legislation to stop
insurance companies from curtailing their health care duties.
At least two insurers have issued guidelines that the West
Virginia Nurses Association believes would restrict nurse
practitioners and nurse anesthetists under the medical malpractice
policies of hospitals and doctors' offices.
A Senate bill would require the state insurance commissioner to
review any policy guideline that imposes limits on the practice of
health care providers. Offending insurance companies would face
fines. A similar bill is slated for the House.
