Article: South Charleston mayor proposes user fee ordinance: Robb proposes charging those who work in city $2 per week

People working in South Charleston may notice $2 missing from their weekly paychecks starting July 1 if council passes a city user fee.

Mayor Richie Robb submitted a user fee ordinance in the city budget for next year to help cover street maintenance, fire and police department costs. If the measure is approved, South Charleston would join other municipalities including Charleston and Huntington that charge people a weekly fee for working in their city.

"We haven't had any kind of a tax increase in probably 10 years," Robb said. "Costs have caught up with us. If we want to continue to enjoy the level of services provided, we'll have to increase the revenue flow."
