Speculation about closure of the 130th Airlift Wing's base has
some officials vowing to fight a "bloody, expensive" war to keep the
Air National Guard facility in Charleston.
The Department of Defense is expected to release its base
realignment and closure list Friday, and leaders including National
Guard officers and U.S. senators have received strong indication that
the 130th Airlift Wing will be on that list.
"(Joint Chiefs Chairman) Gen. Richard Myers last week made the
statement that if we had to fight another war, we'd be strained to do
that," said Maj. Gen. Allen Tackett, adjutant general of the National
