MacCorkle Avenue is what makes and breaks Kanawha City, with its bustling, bumper-to-bumper traffic, big-box retailers and stuff- yourself eateries.

That's splendid for the economy, but not so much for residents trying to latch onto the community's essence.

The Kanawha City Community Association will strive to balance all of these factors when it holds its first meeting at 7 p.m. today at the Kanawha City Baptist Church.

Councilwoman Ditty Markham said one of the group's goals is to enhance the aesthetic appeal of Kanawha City neighborhoods and commercial spots.

That means trying to limit or prevent the installation of new towering pole signs and billboards.
