Article: Wal-Mart renews interest in Kanawha City: Mayor says company approached him in February and he pointed them to the East End

Charleston Mayor Danny Jones said he was approached less than three months ago about Wal-Mart opening a 40,000-square-foot grocery store in Kanawha City.

"I told them that was not economic development, and we were not interested," Jones said. "We have enough grocery stores in Kanawha City. If they want to build a grocery store, I have a nice lot on the East End."

That comment drew the applause of about 250 people who attended the first meeting of the Kanawha City Community Association, held Tuesday evening at the Kanawha City Baptist Church.
