Alice Abernethy was weary of wedding gowns that gathered dust in closets. She also hated the idea of sealing them in boxes that she refers to as "wedding gown coffins."

Abernethy believed the beauty of wedding gowns should be displayed artistically and came up with the idea of turning them into wall hangings.

She had the gown from her own 1972 wedding as well as the one her late mother wore in 1941. She called her sister, aunt and cousin to see if they would like their gowns turned into works of art as well.

"My relatives were not nervous about giving up their wedding gowns," Abernethy said. "They were happy to do it to have a product to display."
