Twenty-one mining and mine-related operations in the state have
been recognized for their outstanding safety records in 2005.
The operations were honored during a Jan. 19 luncheon at the 33rd
annual West Virginia Mining Symposium at the Charleston House Holiday
Inn.
The top award for 2005 - the Barton B. Lay Milestones of Safety
Award - was presented to Eastern Associated Coal Corp.'s Federal No.
2 Mine in Monongalia County.
Other honorees received the "Mountaineer Guardian" safety award,
which is sponsored by the West Virginia Coal Association and the
state Office of Miners' Health, Safety and Training.
