"Comparing the Hammer stable to my stable," Berkley Kern said,
"is like comparing a guy wearing a gold suit to a guy sleeping in an
alley with a tin cup and dark glasses. I'm the guy with the
glasses."
Today, rap star Hammer and the down-home horse trainer will be
viewed similarly at Laurel and Pimlico, at least in the company of
their horses. Hammer's family-run Oaktown Stable will cut loose
well-favored Dance Floor in the $500,000 Florida Derby - the
Kentucky Derby sampler to be simulcast to the Maryland tracks - and
Kern will saddle Land Running for the Genuine Risk Stakes, taking
aim at a second straight $30,000 score.
