AND YOU thought boxed-set mania had gone out of control when
Chicago released a four-CD retrospective: Now Yoko Ono has topped
even Barbra Streisand's self-celebratory chutzpah with a six-CD set
called "Onobox."
But an open-minded listen to the six-hour, $80, handsomely
packaged box proves that time has clearly caught up with Ono, now
59, and if there were justice in the world of pop music, it would
bring about a reassessment of her mesmerizing work from 1968 to
1985.
Still, six CDs seems unnecessarily extravagant and
cost-prohibitive: Most of the meat is on the first two discs.
"London Jam," in particular, should be released as a single disc.
