Article: State won't bear cost of Weight Watchers for Medicaid recipients

Free Weight Watchers programs rolled out for state Medicaid beneficiaries will not cost the state extra money.

The courses are being made available to some Medicaid recipients through UniCare, a managed care company.

UniCare is the largest company offering managed care to Medicaid participants in West Virginia. It serves 75,000 of the more than 300,000 participants in the state's health care program for the poor.

Unicare provides its participants with health benefits under a contract negotiated with the state Department of Health and Human Resources. It is paid per participant.
