THERE is a ludicrous, but nevertheless cynically topical,
programme on television called Footballers Wives. Manufactured by the
same people who exploited the issue of lesbianism in women's prisons,
it portrays footballers as vile, sneering and robotic; don't even
ask about their cocaine-snorting, shopaholic misunderstood wives.
Eight days ago, a two-year-old boy died. He was called Finlay
Cooper. His parents were Colin and Julie. Colin Cooper, a 34-year-
old defender who started his playing career at Middlesbrough in 1984,
and during stints at Millwall and Nottingham Forest made two
appearances for England, had only hours earlier played for Boro in
their 2-0 FA Cup victory over Manchester ...
