For years Glasgow has lorded it as Britain's greatest shopping
city outside London. Where other Scottish cities have woollen mills
and Vantage chemists, Glasgow has Emporio Armani and Space NK, Gucci
loafers and double-decaff latte.
But, like a House of Fraser window display, all this could change
overnight. When Harvey Nichols opens the doors of its Edinburgh store
for the first time on August 15 it will pave the way for the greatest
names in fashion to follow.
Prada, Joseph, Salvatore Ferragamo, Louis Vuitton and Christian
Dior are all in the final stages of renting property in the capital's
new high-fashion district off St Andrew Square, known as The Walk.
