Article: 'Kissing' virus transmitted by teen sex; Major Edinburgh University study reveals that glandular fever is a sexually transmitted disease

Glandular fever, the debilitating common illness nicknamed "the kissing disease" because it is spread through saliva, is also transmitted sexually, a major Scottish study has found.

More than 1000 students at Edinburgh University had blood samples taken and were quizzed about their sexual history in order to find out whether the disease is spread by sex as well as simply kissing. Researchers found students with the highest number of sexual partners were more likely to carry the Epstein-Barr virus, which causes glandular fever.
