I was anxious about my new family's first weekend away. Judith and I are still getting used to life with our three-month-old daughter Freya and worried that a stay in a hotel might prove more of a chore than a break.

Not a whiff of it in the elegant Four Seasons Hotel in St Fillans, by Loch Earn, where luxurious eating amid easy-going surroundings serve to soothe the souls of the most flustered of young(ish) parents.

Upon arrival, we were warmly welcomed and immediately offered help with our trunks containing baby essentials. Our room was large, with a magnificent view along the length of the loch and had been fitted out with a cot.
