Playing the part of runway major domo, Harold Davis checked his
watch for perhaps the eleventh time in as many minutes, calculated
the number of empty seats in the front row and at 12:17 p.m. was
beginning to look as though he might snap right there in front of
everyone. The curmudgeonly sales director for Bill Blass put his
hands on his gray flannel hips and barked: "He wants to start now."
"He," of course, was the ever-punctual Blass, whose fall
collection was forced into a holding pattern today when Gordon
Henderson's 11 a.m. show started 50 minutes late. Meanwhile, the
elevators at 550 Seventh Ave. were clogged with fashion editors and
retailers trying to get to Blass's 17th-floor ...
