YOU would think few people could object to the creation of a
sexual health strategy for Scotland, what with dramatic increases in
sexually transmitted infections (STIs), widespread attitudes of
acceptance of sexual violence and prejudice, and some of the highest
rates of teenage pregnancy in Western Europe.
Writing in the Sunday Herald earlier this month, however,
Archbishop Mario Conti argued that the draft sexual health strategy
is a sign of Scotland's "anti-life" culture.
The suggestion is that because increased access to sexual health
services leads to higher rates of diagnosis of STIs, they must
increase promiscuity. But diagnosis is one of the things clinical
