Article: Report reveals many children in care no better off than 25 years ago; National study shows young people's lives are made worse by being 'looked after' by local authorities

There has been little improvement in the treatment of young people in local authourity homes during the past 25 years with many of their lives made worse, not better, by the decision to take them into care.

This damning verdict, from a report published by Who Cares? - the national organisation for children in care - has forced the Executive to admit there is a "long way to go" in improving conditions for young people in care.

The report, titled Let's Face It, and subtitled Young People Tell It Like It Is, was produced by Who Cares? to coincide with the charity's 25th anniversary.
