Chemung County issued the following press release:
An early morning fire in the main electrical room of the Appleridge Community, located in Bethany Village has cut power to the facility. The fire was reported at 4:54am and was confined in the electrical room. The Horseheads Fire Department responded and the fire was quickly extinguished by the facilities sprinkler system. According to Horseheads Fire Chief Richard Sullivan, "The sprinkler system and fire resistant walls worked as they should and kept the fire contained in the electrical room. Twenty-one fire fighters responded to the alarm with three pumper trucks, one ladder truck and one rescue vehicle."
