The New Jersey Department of the Public Advocate issued the following news release:
Gov. Corzine issued an executive order creating the Office of Homeland Security and Preparedness. As part of that order, Gov. Corzine instructed the Public Advocate to designate an ombudsman to "address civil liberties issues related to homeland security and preparedness." In that role, our department will carry out two primary functions:
1. The Public Advocate will have a seat at the table when major homeland security policies are being developed, and will work with all parties to ensure that such policies properly respect civil liberties and individual rights.
