Blue Cross and Blue Shield of New Jersey has taken the most dramatic step in its 60-year history. By the end of this year, it will become a part of Anthem, Inc., creating an integrated health care company with more than $9 billion in revenues and the second largest holder of Blue Cross and Blue Shield franchises. It will become a health services organization that ranks in the top five in the United States.
BCBSNJ, which currently covers 1.9 million residents, recently agreed to acquire the assets of Blue Cross Blue Shield of Delaware and its 250,000 subscribers in a $103-million deal. The combined companies cover 2.1 million lives in the two states and anticipate 1996 revenues of more than ...
