The U.S. Department of State's International Information Programs issued the following press release:
On the final day of her tour of northern England, Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice said that Liverpool, like her hometown of Birmingham, Alabama, has demonstrated its ability to revitalize itself and overcome a difficult past.
Rice, who was accompanied on her trip by British Foreign Minister Jack Straw, spoke of her impressions in an interview with the Liverpool Echo on April 1. The following day, Rice and Straw flew to Baghdad to encourage progress on forming a government of national unity.
