The richly stirring sounds of a 120 voice choir singing Jerusalem the Golden and Hava Nagila formed a memorable climax to the inspiring fiftieth Anniversary Concert of the Zemel Choir, at a capacity-filled St John's Smith Square on 20 November. The Zemel has had a formidable history as Britain's foremost Jewish mixed-voice choir, including worldwide tours and special commemorative concerts at Canterbury and St Paul's Cathedrals, York Minster, and in Poland for the 50th anniversary of the Warsaw Uprising; Zemel was recently featured in the BBC's Songs of Praise, one of the few Jewish choirs to have done so.
