Article: Man Finds Vehicle's Vegetable Oil Consumption Good for Wallet

GREAT FALLS, Mont. - When Jeff Carlisle's 1984 Ford truck idles, lunch comes to mind.

"It's my french fry burner," Carlisle said, as it warmed up at a local service station recently.

In October, he converted the diesel truck to run on vegetable oil, fabricating nearly all the parts himself.

"It's been an exciting adventure," he said as the smell of fry grease from the truck s exhaust filled the back of the garage.

The vegetable oil-powered truck has taken Carlisle 8,500 miles - virtually trouble-free. His monthly fuel costs have dropped from about $350 to around $65.

He uses the truck to commute for work and takes it to his daughter's basketball games. The truck still technically gets 16 ...
