Rep. Nick Joe Rahall, D-W.Va. (3rd CD), issued the following news release:
Rep. Nick J. Rahall (D-WV) has joined his colleagues in the request for additional funding for the Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program and the SAFER Program.
The Administration's budget proposal eliminates the SAFER program and provides only $293 million for Fire Grants. This is despite the fact that the programs are authorized at $1 billion each for the current fiscal year, and the applications received by the Department of Homeland Security far exceed these authorization levels.
