Article: Wine Retailers and Vineyards Growing in Hagerstown Area

Wine has a mystique unlike any other alcoholic beverages; there's even a word for a wine-lover, oenophilist.

In recent years, oenophilists in Washington County have more to be passionate about as area liquor stores expand their wine choices. On a single Saturday last December, wine lovers could sniff and swish their way through six different wine tasting events at liquor retailers.

"Many people in Hagerstown are wine connoisseurs, who buy wine for both drinking and saving," says Dave Short, an employee at the Bacchus Wine Shop located in the Four Points Sheraton in Hagerstown. "We have a full range of wines, from $9.99 to $400 a bottle, but not the standard brands."
