Urban Bush Women send empowerment message through dance

The innovative, Africentric dance troupe Urban Bush Women brought their current tour to the Palace Theatre on Feb. 18.

In the opening number, "Give Your Hands to Struggle," a dancer dressed in white gracefully glided around the stage as a recorded voice intoned the names of Martin Luther King Jr., Rosa Parks and other luminaries who have been instrumental in the struggle for freedom in quality. Through her writhing and pained facial expression, the dancer conveyed the emotion of the sacrifices these trailblazers made.
