Gowan, "a Christian for whose life the Bible is definitive," experiments with a way of writing biblical theology which he hopes will bridge "the gulf that separates biblical scholarship from theology in general" (p. xvii). In an introductory chapter G. explains the possibly misleading title. "Theology" means literally "discourse about God."
