By Sabina CastelfrancoFor the past two days, tens of thousands of people have crowded Saint Peter's Square to pay tribute to Pope John Paul II, who died April 2 of last year. After an evening vigil Sunday night, Pope Benedict XVI, Monday, celebrated a solemn mass.
Cardinals, bishops, priests as well as tens of thousands of pilgrims from all over the world, many from John Paul's native Poland, attended the open-air mass. Cardinal Stanislaw Dziwisz, the late pope's longtime private secretary, was also present.
Pope Benedict appeared wearing red vestments. He blessed the crowd as he made his way up the steps of Saint Peter's Basilica.In ...
