PET is having an increasingly important role in the practice of nuclear medicine. At Duke University Medical Center, for example, PET now accounts for 38% of the billed revenue from the nuclear medicine division. In 1997, it was not a separate revenue source-- a major change in less than 4 years. The 2001 US. Nuclear Medicine Market Report from Frost & Sullivan forecasts revenue from dedicated PET at $322.8 million in 2001, compared with $17.6 million in 1997. The installed base of dedicated PET scanners for 2001 is estimated at 583, compared with 107 in 1997.
