Rally to Stop Genocide in Darfur: McCollum Remarks

Since 2003, the Darfur region of Western Sudan has been the scene of a massive campaign of genocide by the Government of Sudan and armed militias that has resulted in as many as 400,000 deaths and more than 2 million persons displaced from their homes. The killing and violence continues today.

As a member of the House International Relations Subcommittee on Africa and Human Rights, Rep. McCollum has traveled in 2005 and Januray 2006 to Sudan and the neighboring nation of Chad to meet with survivors of the Darfur genocide and humanitarian workers.
