NEW DELHI, India, May 10 -- THE MCD has issued a blanket order directing all 746 private primary-level schools in the city to obtain fire safety certificates from the concerned authority (Delhi Fire Service) by July 1, failing which they will be de-recognised.
The Corporation, however, seems to care little about the lives of lakhs of children studying in the 1819 MCD-run schools. A large number of MCD schools do not even have a regular water supply.
Citing recent fire tragedies in UP, Tamil Nadu and Orissa, MCD officials said that they would adopt a non-lenient approach regarding fire safety norms in private schools.
