The Philippine Coconut Authority (PCA) administrator Jesus Emmanuel Paras told the Philippine Daily Inquirer in an interview reported on February 10 that expectations were for a decline of 4% in the country's coconut oil production in 2006. The forecast recognizes the lingering effects of the mild drought in 2005.
Initial projections for the year 2006 place the total coconut oil production at 2.5 million metric tons (MMT), but exports are expected to remain around 1.1 MMT. None the less the Philippines continues to be the world's largest exporter of coconut oil.
