The government of United Kingdom's Maritime and Coastguard Agency issued the following news release:

Just before midnight last night, Liverpool Coastguard were contacted by the Royal Navy who had discovered a 500 kg unexploded world war two bomb very near to the Twelve Quays in the River Mersey.

Liverpool Coastguard ensured that Liverpool Police and the local Port Authority were aware.

The Navy informed Liverpool Coastguard of their intention to lift the bomb at low water, and take it Northwards away from any maritime traffic to safely ...
