Article: COAST GUARD MEMORIAL DAY BOATING SAFETY ADVISORY

The U.S. Department of Homeland Security's U.S. Coast Guard, 1st District office, issued the following press release:

Memorial Day weekend typically signals the start of the boating and paddling season in the northeast United States. This is the time of year when inexperience, overconfidence, celebration and alcohol can easily overtake the rules of safety and common sense. The Coast Guard is reminding recreational boaters to use safe boating practices.

Since 1998, twenty-one recreational boaters and paddlers have perished over the Memorial Day weekend.
