Article: REMOTE FINGERPRINT IDENTIFICATION SYSTEM NEARING FINAL STAGE

Hennepin County issued the following press release:

The County Board recently approved a $986,642 grant from the U.S. Department of Justice for the fifth and final stage of an Integrated Biometric Identification System (IBIS) that will enable law enforcement to do remote fingerprint identification right at a crime scene, then search state and local databases for related information on the individual.

The Hennepin County Sheriff's Office is participating in the multi-agency project and has been administering the funding - approximately $6.2 million so far. The grants have made it possible to test a prototype of the device.
