The University of Delaware sports department issued the following news release:
Former University of Delaware baseball star Kevin Mench is on a power tear with the Texas Rangers, hitting home runs in each of the last six games. Mench hit a grand slam on Wednesday night in a 6-4 loss to the Oakland Athletics.
It was the second grand slam during Mench's home run streak and the third of his career. It came in the fourth inning off Oakland pitcher Kiko Calero and put the Rangers up 4-1.
The streak is a Texas club record and Mench is threatening the Major League Baseball record for home runs in consecutive games, which stands at eight. That record is shared by Ken Griffey Jr., Don Mattingly and ...
