To the Editor: In the article entitled "Rational Approach to Patients With Unintentional Weight Loss," Dr Bouras and colleagues1 mention hyperthyroidism in the body of the article as a cause of weight loss. This, of course, is accurate and, in clinical practice, one of the more common causes of unintentional weight loss. It is surprising therefore not to see thyroid function studies listed in the algorithm on page 927 or in Table 3 on page 928. Was this an oversight or an intentional omission?
