In recent years Harvard University's black studies has suffered a large number of high-profile faculty defections. Henry Louis Gates Jr., outgoing chair of the African and African-American studies department, has accomplished several solid successes in attracting top black faculty to Cambridge.
During the Lawrence Summers years at Harvard the university's black studies department saw the departure of several high-profile black academics. First, the philosopher K. Anthony Appiah left for Princeton University. He was quickly followed to Princeton by Cornel West. Lawrence D. Bobo and Marcyliena Morgan left Harvard for Stanford after President Summers denied Morgan's application for tenure. ...
